Is CapCut Pro Worth It in 2026? Price, Features & Free vs Pro

CapCut Pro is worth it if you post short social videos weekly and keep hitting its paywalls: Pro templates and effects, 4K or 60fps export, or AI tools. Skip it if the free version covers your edits, or if you need CapCut library music for ads outside TikTok, which its license doesn't allow. In the US, Pro is $19.99 a month on the App Store (October 2026).
CapCut is free to download and genuinely useful without paying. The upgrade question comes down to three things: which features you actually use, where you publish, and what you pay in your region. This guide covers all three. For a wider view of what editors cost, see our AI video editor pricing comparison.
Facts checked October 20, 2026 against CapCut's US App Store listing, CapCut's Terms of Service and Materials License Agreement, CapCut's help center, and dated third-party pricing guides (links under Sources). CapCut's pricing page returned HTTP 451 to our requests, and CapCut says prices vary by region, platform and promotion, so treat the in-app upgrade screen as the final word.
How Much Does CapCut Pro Cost in 2026?
In the US, CapCut Pro is $19.99 a month on the App Store, and a cheaper Standard tier is $9.99 a month. Outside the US, and on web checkout or Google Play, the price can differ.
| CapCut plan (US, October 2026) | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | CapCut |
| Standard, monthly | $9.99 | US App Store listing |
| Pro, monthly | $19.99 | US App Store listing |
| Pro, annual | $179.99 | Third-party guides updated in 2026 |
| Other listed subscriptions (tier not named) | $7.99/mo, $19.99/mo, $89.99/yr | US App Store listing |
CapCut changed its paid plans in late 2025 and early 2026, according to third-party guides. CapCut's help center says the Pro plan was upgraded for new subscribers, with monthly AI credits rising from 550 to 1,200 and cloud storage from 100GB to 1TB, and the older rate is no longer offered. Existing subscribers were moved to the new plan without a price increase during their active period. Third-party guides report that the old Pro price became today's Standard tier, which CapCut's help center describes as a lighter plan with about 100GB of storage. CapCut's terms list Standard as a paid service "where applicable," but some CapCut pages use "Standard" for the free version, so check which plan you're buying.
Two buying tips. First, CapCut's help center describes a seven-day Pro free trial for new subscribers in selected countries and regions; if you don't see a "Free Trial" badge, your region likely isn't eligible. Second, you can't switch between Standard and Pro mid-subscription, according to CapCut's help center; you cancel, wait for the period to end, then subscribe to the other plan.
What Do You Get in CapCut Free vs Pro?
Free CapCut covers everyday trimming, text, basic auto captions and non-Pro templates. Pro unlocks Pro-marked assets, 4K and 60fps export, more AI usage, and 1TB of cloud storage.
| Feature | CapCut Free | CapCut Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Basic editing, text, transitions | Yes | Yes |
| Pro-marked templates, effects, music | Preview only; exporting needs Pro | Yes |
| 4K and 60fps export | No | Yes |
| Watermark-free export with Pro assets | No | Yes |
| Auto captions | Basic captions on mobile, desktop and web | Yes, plus advanced options |
| AI tools | Some with limited free uses; Auto Reframe is Pro-only | 1,200 AI credits a month |
| Cloud storage and cross-device editing | Not confirmed in CapCut's current help pages | 1TB; editing across mobile, desktop and web |
| Price (US App Store) | $0 | $19.99/mo |
Feature rows come from CapCut's help center as of October 2026. CapCut changes free-tier rules by region and app version, so check the export panel on your device.
The pattern matters more than any single row. CapCut lets you use Pro items while editing, then asks you to pay at export. That's the freemium model at work, and it's why many people upgrade on impulse. Before you do, check whether the item that triggered the prompt is one you'll use every week.
Does CapCut Free Add a Watermark?
Only in specific cases. A plain free-tier project without Pro items can export without a CapCut watermark. You'll see an upgrade prompt or a watermark when:
- Your project uses Pro materials. CapCut's help center says Pro templates, effects, music or AI tools trigger an upgrade prompt at export. Pro items carry a Pro icon in the top-left corner of their thumbnail, so you can find and delete them.
- A CapCut ending clip is still on the timeline. CapCut says the watermark often comes from the default ending clip or a template element. Delete the outro at the end of the timeline and check overlay tracks for logos.
- You choose 4K, 60fps or "No Watermark" without Pro. CapCut says these export options are locked for non-Pro users.
If a clean, watermark-free export matters for client or brand work, read video watermarks explained before you decide.
Can You Use CapCut Pro for Commercial Work?
Partly. Paying for Pro doesn't make every CapCut asset safe for commercial use. CapCut's Materials License Agreement, last updated July 25, 2023, sets the rules:
- Only materials marked "commercial use" or "commercial" are cleared for limited commercial purposes. Unmarked materials are for personal, non-commercial use.
- Commercial sounds are platform-limited. Content using sounds from the Commercial sounds library may only be distributed and posted to CapCut, TikTok and TikTok for Business. Using it on TV, radio or in theaters requires your own rights.
- Mixing kills the commercial right. Content that combines commercial and non-commercial materials is limited to personal, non-commercial use.
- Ordinary templates are personal-use. Video templates under the Template tab fall under personal and non-commercial permissions.
- Some uses are off-limits entirely, including ads for tobacco, pharmaceutical, healthcare, herbal or medical products, and political endorsements.
The agreement doesn't describe broader rights for Pro subscribers. So if you make a paid ad for YouTube or Instagram, use music and stock you've licensed elsewhere, or your own footage and audio. CapCut's help center lists "commercial-use assets" among Pro benefits, so Pro can widen what's available; still check each asset's label.
What Do CapCut's Terms Say About Your Content and Billing?
You keep ownership of what you make, but you grant CapCut a broad license to it, and subscriptions renew automatically.
CapCut's international Terms of Service (last updated April 15, 2026) say, "We don't own your User Content." By submitting content, you grant the company and its affiliates a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, perpetual and worldwide license to use it to operate, develop and provide the services, subject to your platform settings. You also license your username, image and likeness to identify you as the source of your content. The terms say you're solely responsible for content you upload or generate, and that third-party AI models in the app, such as Runway, Google and FLUX, come with their own terms. US users are covered by a separate CapCut US Terms of Service, so read that version if you're in the US.
On billing, the international terms say subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless you cancel before it ends. You can get a full refund within 14 calendar days only if you haven't used the premium services since subscribing, and purchases through Apple or Google also follow those stores' refund rules.
Who Should Upgrade to CapCut Pro?
- Weekly short-form creators who use Pro templates, effects or AI tools in most videos and want clean exports.
- Creators who need 4K or 60fps for TikTok, Reels or Shorts.
- People who edit on several devices and want 1TB of cloud storage and cross-device editing.
- TikTok-first businesses whose promotional videos stay on TikTok, where Commercial sounds are cleared.
Who Should Skip CapCut Pro?
- Occasional editors. If you post a few times a month and can avoid Pro items, free CapCut is enough.
- Anyone making ads or client videos for YouTube, Instagram or websites with CapCut library music; the license doesn't cover those platforms.
- Long-form YouTubers. You'll get more from a desktop editor with professional color, audio and multicam.
- Budget-conscious users outside the US who haven't checked local pricing; app-store and web prices can differ.

Is CapCut free in 2026?
Yes. CapCut is free to download and use for basic editing, text, non-Pro templates and basic auto captions. Pro-marked templates, effects and music, 4K and 60fps export, and heavier AI use require a paid plan, according to CapCut's help center.
Does CapCut Pro remove the watermark?

Is there a CapCut Pro free trial?
In some places. CapCut's help center describes a seven-day Pro free trial for new subscribers in selected countries and regions, shown with a "Free Trial" badge. If you've subscribed before, or your region isn't eligible, the trial won't appear.
What is the difference between CapCut Standard and Pro?
Standard is the cheaper paid tier, $9.99 a month on the US App Store, with about 100GB of cloud storage. Pro, $19.99 a month, adds 1TB of storage, 1,200 monthly AI credits, more premium and commercial-use assets, and cross-device editing, per CapCut's help center.
Can I get a refund for CapCut Pro?
Possibly. CapCut's international terms allow a full refund within 14 calendar days only if you haven't used the premium services since subscribing. Purchases through Apple or Google also follow their refund rules, and US users are covered by separate US terms.
