How to Schedule Videos on YouTube, TikTok & Instagram (2026)

To schedule a video, upload it in the platform's own tool and pick a future time instead of publishing now. In YouTube Studio, choose the Schedule card on the Visibility step. On TikTok, use the scheduling option in TikTok Studio. On Instagram, turn on "Schedule this reel" under More options, up to 30 days ahead, or use Meta Business Suite.
Scheduling lets you edit a week of videos in one sitting and still post when your audience is around. The short definition is in our content scheduling glossary entry. Below are the native steps for each platform, a table of their limits, when a third-party tool is worth it, how to pick a time from your own analytics, and how to schedule to YouTube from Loopdesk.
Steps and limits checked October 20, 2026 against YouTube Help, Instagram Help, Meta Business Help and TikTok's own published materials (links under Sources). TikTok's Help Center didn't load when we checked, so its limits are marked as unconfirmed. Full disclosure: Loopdesk is our product.
How do you schedule a video on YouTube?
YouTube documents scheduling in YouTube Studio on a computer. The video stays private until the time you pick, then goes public.
Step 1: Upload the video in YouTube Studio
Sign in at studio.youtube.com, select Create, then Upload videos, and choose your file. Uploads can run up to 12 hours or 256 GB; until you verify your account, the cap is 15 minutes.
Step 2: Add the title, description and settings
Write a title (up to 100 characters) and description, add a thumbnail and playlist, and set the audience, including whether the video is made for kids. Titles and descriptions keep working in search long after the publish hour; see our video SEO guide.
Step 3: Choose Schedule on the Visibility step
When you reach Visibility, click the Schedule card instead of choosing Public, Unlisted or Private. To premiere the video, check Set as Premiere here; Shorts and outputs above 1080p can't premiere.
Step 4: Set the date, time and time zone
Pick the date, time and time zone. YouTube notes that the date on the watch page is based on Pacific Time, so a video scheduled in a time zone ahead of Pacific Time can show a different date there than in Studio.
Step 5: Select Schedule and check the video later
Select Schedule. To change the time later, open Content, select the video, choose Edit and then Visibility, keep it Private and pick a new time under Schedule. To publish early, set it to Public. If your channel has a Community Guidelines strike, a scheduled video won't publish during the penalty period and must be rescheduled afterward.
Any square or vertical upload of up to three minutes is categorized as a Short, and scheduling tools such as Metricool schedule Shorts through YouTube's API the same way.
How do you schedule a TikTok video?
On a computer, open TikTok Studio at tiktok.com/tiktokstudio, upload your video, add the caption and settings, and choose the scheduling option with a date and time instead of posting now.
TikTok's published windows differ, and its Help Center page on scheduling didn't load when we checked:
- TikTok for Business, announcing its Video Scheduler, said you can schedule videos up to 10 days in advance.
- TikTok Shop's seller guide (dated May 13, 2026) says scheduled shoppable videos can be set from 30 minutes to 30 days ahead. On the posting page, it describes tapping More options, then Schedule post under Advanced settings; the Post button then changes to Schedule.
The seller guide also says a scheduled video stays visible only to you until it goes live, and that you can't edit it after scheduling: you delete it (it returns to Drafts), edit it and schedule it again. The date picker on your own account shows the window that applies to you.
How do you schedule Instagram Reels?
Instagram's help center (as of October 2026) says you need a public account, and you can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days in advance. Older coverage of the 2022 launch cites 75 days; the current help page says 30.
- Tap Create in the top left, or swipe right in Feed, then tap Reel.
- Select your video and tap Next.
- Add a caption, effects or filters.
- Tap More options.
- Turn on Schedule this reel, then choose a date and time.
- Tap Done, then Back.
- Tap Schedule.
Product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers aren't compatible with scheduled content. To manage scheduled Reels, go to your profile, tap Menu, then Scheduled content under Your insights and tools, and choose Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now. Before you schedule, run our Reels pre-publish checklist.
How do you schedule with Meta Business Suite?
Meta Business Suite schedules posts, Reels and Stories to a Facebook Page, an Instagram account, or both. You need full control of the account or Content permission for it.
On desktop, click Create reel, choose where to post under Post to, add the video and a thumbnail, and write the caption (you can customize it for Facebook and Instagram). Click Next, choose to schedule, set the date and time, and click Schedule. On mobile, tap +, choose Reel, add your video, then under Scheduling options choose Schedule for later.
When you create a post on desktop, Meta's Active times button suggests times based on when your followers were most active on Facebook and Instagram over the past seven days. Scheduled items live under Content, in the Scheduled tab of Posts & reels, where you can reschedule, edit or delete them. Meta's help pages don't state a maximum scheduling window for Business Suite.
How do native scheduling limits compare?
| YouTube Studio | TikTok Studio | Instagram app | Meta Business Suite | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where | studio.youtube.com on a computer | tiktok.com/tiktokstudio; an in-app route for some posts | Instagram app, under More options | Desktop and mobile app |
| Account needed | Any channel; 15-minute uploads until verified | Varies by account (unconfirmed) | Public account | Full control or Content permission |
| How far ahead | No maximum stated | 10 days (TikTok for Business); 30 days for shoppable videos (TikTok Shop) | 30 days | No maximum stated |
| Daily cap | None stated | Not confirmed | 25 posts a day | None stated |
| Change after scheduling | Edit the time while Private, or set Public to publish now | Delete and schedule again (TikTok Shop guide) | Edit, reschedule, share now or delete | Reschedule, edit, move to drafts or delete |
| Watch out for | Watch-page date uses Pacific Time; strikes pause publishing | Scheduled posts can't be edited (TikTok Shop guide) | No product tags or collaborators | Can't edit a reel from a video when posting to Instagram |
Should you use a third-party scheduler?
Use one when you post to several networks on a regular cadence or need a shared calendar and approvals. Third-party schedulers mostly publish through each platform's official API, so they follow the same limits, and their format support varies: Buffer and Later schedule YouTube Shorts but not long-form YouTube, while Metricool schedules both, with YouTube files up to 500 MB.
The full comparison of which tool posts where, and how API publishing works, is in social media publishing explained.
When is the best time to post a video?
There is no universal best time. Use each platform's own data about your audience:
- YouTube: In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, then the Audience tab, and find When your viewers are on YouTube. It shows when your viewers were online across YouTube over the last 28 days, and YouTube suggests using it to choose upload, Premiere and live stream times.
- Instagram: Once you have at least 100 followers, Insights shows follower trends, including the times they're most active on Instagram.
- Meta Business Suite: The Active times button suggests slots based on the past seven days.
- TikTok: TikTok Studio's Analytics includes follower data. We couldn't confirm its current labels on TikTok's Help Center, so look for follower activity in the Followers section.
Then test. Schedule similar videos at two different times for a few weeks and compare like with like. Our guide to cross-platform video analytics covers how to compare results across platforms.
How do you schedule a video to YouTube from Loopdesk?
Loopdesk's Calendar schedules a rendered video to your connected YouTube channel:
- Connect your YouTube channel. As of October 2026 it's the only social platform you can connect; Meta is listed but not currently available, and TikTok and X are coming soon.
- Open the Calendar and pick the rendered video.
- Add a title and the other details.
- Set the date and time, then select Dispatch Task.
- After the scheduled time, open YouTube and confirm the video published, as Loopdesk advises.
Afterward, Channel Insights shows the connected channel's views, watch time, average view percentage and engagement over 7, 30 or 90 days. The design thinking behind the calendar is in Building Chronos. For TikTok and Instagram, export platform versions from Loopdesk and schedule them natively with the steps above.

If your channel has a Community Guidelines strike, scheduled videos won't publish during the penalty period and must be rescheduled. Also check the time zone you set and the video's status under Content in YouTube Studio.
