Best AI Video Editor for iPhone in 2026: iOS Apps Compared

CapCut is the best AI video editor for most iPhone users in 2026: it is free, auto-captions speech and lists 4K 60fps export. Adobe Premiere on iPhone is the best free pro-style alternative, with free 4K export and no watermark. Choose LumaFusion for ProRes and HDR footage, VN for free exports without a watermark, and Captions for talking-head videos.
This guide goes deeper on iOS than our iPhone and Android overview: App Store prices, iOS version requirements, how each app treats HDR and ProRes footage, storage, and export settings. On Android? Read the sibling guide to the best AI video editor for Android.
Facts checked October 20, 2026 against US App Store listings and each vendor's own pages and help docs (see Sources). App Store prices are US listings, vary by region, and use the in-app purchase names the store shows. Full disclosure: Loopdesk is our product. It runs in Safari, not as a native iPhone app, and has no free plan.
What is the best AI video editor for iPhone?
For most people it is CapCut. The right pick depends on your footage and budget, though: Premiere suits people who want a free pro-style timeline, LumaFusion suits ProRes and HDR shooters, VN suits anyone who needs a free editor without a watermark, and InShot suits quick, simple posts. If you'd rather describe the edit than learn a timeline, Loopdesk runs in Safari.

The best AI video editing apps for iPhone in 2026
Rankings weigh time-saving AI features, watermark-free export, iPhone footage support and price, from each vendor's documentation.
1. CapCut: best all-round AI editor for iPhone
CapCut is free and lists auto captions, text-to-speech, background removal and motion tracking, plus "4K 60fps exports and smart HDR." It needs iOS 15.0 or later, so it runs on older iPhones than most apps here. Some features and assets need a Standard or Pro subscription, and watermark rules depend on what you use. For fast vertical edits, see our Shorts, Reels and TikTok guide.
2. Adobe Premiere: best free pro-style editor on iPhone
Adobe launched Premiere on iPhone on September 30, 2025. The App Store says "Everything you need to edit videos is available for free," including 4K export, "without pop-up ads or watermarks." You pay ($7.99 a month or $69.99 a year) only for Firefly generative credits and extra storage. Its AI tools include auto captions, background removal, Enhance Audio and generated sound effects. It needs iOS 18.0 or later.
3. Captions: best for talking-head and short-form video
The company behind Captions renamed itself Mirage on September 4, 2025, but the app is still called Captions ("Captions: AI Edits Your Video"). It is built for talking to camera: chat-based editing, AI Edit, an AI teleprompter, dubbing in 29 languages and subtitles in 91+. The US App Store lists Basic at $9.99 a month or $64.99 a year and Max at $24.99, and Captions says its listed prices reflect iOS plans. It needs iOS 16.0.
4. LumaFusion: best for ProRes, HDR and multitrack edits
LumaFusion is a $29.99 one-time purchase with an optional Creator Pass ($9.99 a month or $69.99 a year) and paid add-ons such as Multicam Studio ($19.99). LumaTouch documents full ProRes editing and export on compatible devices, and its listing mentions "smooth handling of 4K ProRes and HDR media." Exports above 4K are limited to certain newer iPhones and M-series iPads. The catch: the current version requires iOS 26.0 or later.
5. VN: best free iPhone editor without a watermark
VN's listing says "Free with No Watermark," and it exports "up to 4K resolution at 60fps." It also states "Support Dolby Vision HDR (iPhone 12+)." AI tools include auto captions with filler-word and silence removal, text-to-speech and AutoCut. VN Pro ($7.99 or $69.99) and credit packs (from $1 for 100 credits) are optional.
6. InShot: best simple editor for quick posts
InShot keeps editing simple. AI Cut removes silences, filler words and breaths, and the app adds auto captions and text-to-speech. Pro costs $4.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 for life. InShot's listings in other markets say Pro removes the watermark and ads. It saves up to 4K at 60fps and needs iOS 15.0.
7. iMovie: best free Apple editor for HDR basics
iMovie is free, exports up to 4K at 60fps, and lets you turn HDR on or off when you share. It can import and edit ProRes on iPhone 13 and later. Its AI is minimal, and the App Store shows no update since version 3.0.5 in December 2024. It needs iOS 17.6. If you're comparing ease of use, see our easiest AI video editors.
8. Loopdesk in Safari: best browser-based agentic editor
Full disclosure: Loopdesk is our product. It is not a native app: Loopdesk runs in Safari (and other browsers) with no install, using WebGPU and WebCodecs. You describe the edit to Aura, its AI assistant, which can remove silences and filler words, add captions in 108 languages, reframe to 9:16 and batch-edit 50+ videos. Plans start at $19 a month ($15 billed annually) with unlimited watermark-free 1080p and 4K exports.
The limits are real. There is no free plan, trial or offline mode, and it needs an internet connection. Long timelines are more comfortable on a laptop than a phone screen.
Considered but not ranked: Splice and Descript
Splice (from Bending Spoons) is free to download, but its listing says you subscribe to use the features it describes, and it documents no AI features. Descript has no official iOS app, and its help center says Descript "is not officially supported on mobile browsers or tablet devices like Chromebooks or iPads."
Is there a free AI video editor for iPhone?
Yes. CapCut, Adobe Premiere, VN and iMovie are all free to edit with. Premiere and VN say they add no watermark, and iMovie has no standard watermark. CapCut is free, but some assets and features need a subscription. For the most AI, start with CapCut or Premiere; for watermark-free output, start with VN or Premiere.
How do HDR, Dolby Vision and ProRes footage affect iPhone editing?
Supported iPhones record HDR (Dolby Vision) video by default, and Pro models can also record ProRes. Both need an editor that supports them. Otherwise the app may convert the clip: Apple says apps without ProRes support may transcode it to H.264, and devices running software older than iOS 13.4 or macOS 10.15.4 receive an SDR version of HDR clips.
HDR. You'll find the setting at Settings > Camera > Record Video > HDR Video. Apple lists Clips and iMovie as iPhone apps that edit HDR video, and in iMovie you tap Options when sharing to export in HDR or SDR. Among third-party apps, VN documents Dolby Vision HDR on iPhone 12 and later, Premiere advertises 4K HDR editing, and CapCut lists smart HDR.
ProRes. On supported Pro models, turn on Apple ProRes at Settings > Camera > Formats. Apple says ProRes files are "up to 30 times larger than HEVC files." On 128 GB models, ProRes recording is limited to 1080p at 30 or 25 fps, and 4K at 60 fps needs an external drive (iPhone 15 Pro and later). For editing, Apple names Photos, iMovie, Final Cut Pro and "other ProRes-compatible apps," and LumaFusion documents ProRes export. For how ProRes compares with H.264 and HEVC, read video codecs explained.
How much storage do you need to edit video on iPhone?
More than the footage itself. Apple notes that higher resolutions and frame rates create larger files, and ProRes recording needs at least 10 percent of storage free. The apps here also take about 170 MB to 825 MB each before you add projects.
- Record in High Efficiency (Settings > Camera > Formats) unless you need H.264. Apple calls HEIF and HEVC the "space-saving" formats, and Most Compatible switches new videos to H.264.
- Send ProRes to an external drive on iPhone 15 Pro and later. Apple's requirements include an exFAT-formatted drive with at least 220 MB/s write speed for 4K60.
What export settings should you use on iPhone?
Match the export to the destination. For Shorts, Reels and TikTok, export vertical 1080x1920 (9:16) at the frame rate you shot. Keep 4K for YouTube or a master file. Export SDR when a client or app can't handle HDR, and choose H.264 MP4 when you need the widest compatibility.
If you shoot 60fps for smooth motion, export at 60 to keep it, or at 30 to cut file size.
When does a browser editor beat a native iPhone app?
A native app wins for quick capture-to-post edits on the phone you shot with. A browser editor wins when the same project has to move between your iPhone and a laptop, or when you want an AI agent to run a multi-step edit. Browser editors need a connection and a current version of Safari.
WebKit says WebGPU, the graphics API that browser editors such as Loopdesk rely on, began shipping in Safari 26.0 for iOS, so keep iOS up to date. For the bigger picture, see why video editing is moving to the browser.
